A large fire broke out in Hockley, Birmingham, prompting emergency services to urge residents to stay clear of the area as crews respond to the incident.

Birmingham residents have been warned to avoid the Hockley area following a significant fire that occurred this morning. The blaze ignited on Barr Street, resulting in thick clouds of smoke visible across Newtown. Jackie Riley, a resident of a nearby high-rise building, reported being awakened by the smell of smoke around 6:35 am. Upon inspecting her surroundings, she noted the thick black smoke engulfing her tower block and promptly contacted emergency services.
